Thought of the Day

Sean and I went to a funeral yesterday for the mother of one of Sean's closest friends. It was a very nice service. Chad's mom was a single mom and he is the only child. His mom battled cancer for 11 years. In fact, she found out she had cancer 5 days after Chad went into the MTC. Throughout Chad's life she worked 2-3 jobs to provide for him. During the service they talked about some of her journal entries from the past year and the amount of pain she was in. I was astonished to learn of the extremities of pain she dealt with on a daily basis. I visited with Martine several times and never knew how much pain she was in. No one did. That's what is so amazing about her. Whenever I saw her, all she wanted to talk about was Carter and how we were doing. On the way into the chapel there was a display of some of her things. One thing that stood out to me was a plaque that said, "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass, but learning how to dance in the rain." I think Martine truly lived by this statement and after listening to the service yesterday, I was touched by the example she was to all around her. She had a pretty tough life but she dealt with it and moved on. I think she passed this quality onto Chad. At the end of the service he said a few words. He said he has been feeling a little guilty because people have been asking him how he is doing and he is doing ok. He said is doing ok because he knows without a shadow of a doubt that he will see his mom again. I hope I can learn to "dance in the rain" like Martine and Chad throughout the storms of life.

Thank you

Thanks for the gift card that everyone went in on for my birthday! ---Sean

Fundraiser for Carley

Carley's Club Volleyball team is doing a fundraiser. We would love it if anyone would be interested (or willing!) to participate!! You don't have to spend any money. You just have to spend 90 minutes listening to a presentation at Cibola Vista Resort on their timeshare program. In exchange, you receieve a trip of your choice (to either Las Vegas or Catalina Island) and Carley gets $150 sent in her name to the volleyball club. (she gets $150 if you go during the week, and $100 if you go on the weekend.) If anyone needs a babysitter, I will gladly watch kids! Steve and I went and it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. No high pressure tactics or anything like that. Sean and Jessica went and I think found it to be an okay experience.....and Mom and Dad are scheduled to go Friday the 4th. Thanks for your help...here are the details....

  1. Call Jacque Duhame - 602 - 889-4607 (or if anyone would rather, I can call and schedule the appointment for you.)
  2. Tell her you'd like to schedule a tour for a fundraiser for Arizona Desert Volleyball Club.
  3. She'll ask you for your address and e-mail address so she can send you a map and confirmation.
  4. She'll ask you what trip you want: Las Vegas or Catalina Island (2 nights accomodations with round trip airfare to Vegas; or 2 nights accommodations on Catalina Island with round trip Express Boat transportation.)
  5. Times available to do the tour are: Monday, Thursday and Friday: 9:30, 10, 12:30 and 1:00; or Saturday and Sunday: 9:30, 10, 10:30, 1:30, 2 and 2:30

Thanks guys!!!! If anyone has any questions, let me know!

Happy New Year!

Does anyone have any events that need to be added to the January calendar?
